The Set-up Mechanic ensures the right mold/tooling is set up in the machine to support the manufacturing of quality products. The mechanic assists in the removal of molds and tooling and prepares the machine to receive the next mold. The Set-up Mechanic continually works with the Process, Maintenance, and Production departments to troubleshoot, and correct production errors as needed to ensure quality products.
Summary of Job Duties
- Review production sheets to determine what products are scheduled for production and assigned machines, identifying proper mold, tooling, and components needed.
- Prepare for changes in the production schedule, pulling all materials i.e.; molds, tools and other setup components and install the identified mold and tooling components.
- Remove mold, tooling, and other components after a complete production run, and prepare all parts for proper storage.
- Confirm machine is ready for production by performing pre-run inspections for clearance, loose wires/water lines, alignment, etc.
- Perform all changes of necessary parts using established procedures and precautions as required.
- Identify incomplete set up, wrong tooling, or wrong mold and correct for proper production.
- Communicate mechanical issues to Management or the Maintenance Department.
Work Environment
This job will be performed in production, warehouse, office, and outside buildings, requiring exposure to varying weather conditions and operating in a manufacturing environment that is non-climate controlled. Moderate to loud noise levels that require associates to wear hearing protection. This position may require work above or below ground level and in confined spaces. This position will routinely work on and around industrial equipment and systems including, blow molding machinery, CNC machinery, motors, motor control centers, emergency generators, water coolers, air compressors, grinders, hand tools, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
Physical Demands
Standing, walking, bending, stooping, grip/grasping, twisting, reaching above the head, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting and carrying up to 80 lbs. Ability to use tools and other industrial equipment. Ability to wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Required Skills
- Must have a mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read diagrams, blueprints and other instructions.
- Ability to analyze and identify needed tools, parts, equipment, and supplies to complete work orders.
- Ability and skill safely using power and hand tools.
- The ability to read a tape-measure accurately is critical to this position.
- Troubleshooting experience preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
Education and Experience
- Knowledge of Plastic Blow mold equipment is preferred.
- Production/Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Forklift Certified.
- Ability to be certified on other Industrial equipment as required.
Travel
Occasional travel may be required to attend outside training.
Work Authorization/ Security Clearance
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
