The Load Planner is responsible for planning and coordinating over-the-road freight movements to maximize equipment utilization, improve driver productivity, and ensure on-time service for customers.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Plan and optimize OTR freight movements based on customer demand, driver availability, and equipment capacity.
- Maximize revenue, reduce empty miles, and improve asset utilization.
- Coordinate load assignments and schedules with drivers, dispatch, and operations.
- Monitor freight movement and address service issues or delays.
- Balance freight while considering Hours of Service, home time, and operational priorities.
- Maintain accurate information in the transportation management system.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of transportation operations and DOT regulations.
- Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transportation software.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; college coursework preferred.
- Two or more years of transportation, dispatch, logistics, or load planning experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and talking on the phone.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
