Overview
The Press Foreman will directly report to the Extrusions Manager/Supervisor and will serve as an integral part of the Extrusions Department. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide guidance and motivation to press personnel to achieve established production support goals consistent with ISO 9001, Quality, and Safety standards. In addition, the position will require coordinating and achieving production objectives and departmental requirements based on the availability of materials, equipment, and manpower.
Duties
- Responsible for maintaining collaborative relationships with cross functional teams to facilitate organizational success through focus on customer requirement achievement.
- Provide clear instructions for assigned and delegated tasks, motivate and support team members to complete work efficiently and on time, and educate team on incorporating technical best practices.
- Provide daily oversight for press personnel (e.g., press/saw operators, stackers, etc.), organize operators' workstations, support in machine setup tasks, and assess performance to guarantee work quality and meet production requirements.
- Ensures and supervises extrusions accordingly, guaranteeing that the quality and performance of the product are optimized to meet the specific requirements of customers and enhance overall company efficiency.
- Inspect tooling for any damage or accumulation of aluminum that could compromise the quality of the final product or result in defective materials. Ensure that the tooling, die ring, face container, butt shear, ram, and stem are properly lubricated as necessary to maintain operational efficiency and prevent maintenance issues.
- Conducts die box inventory at the start of every shift to verify that the inventory aligns with the die over tab in EPICS. Monitors the proper heating of die boxes and ensures that cold dies are not inserted into the press when press operator is not present.
- Initiates extrusion process after die replacement and effectively manages profile beginnings by directing them to the puller, arranging carbon blocks and spacers, and configuring the lead-out/run-out table based on the profile specifications. Adjusts support tooling accordingly in alignment with the order sequence.
- Assist in the regular operation of the extrusion press and its various components such as the log table, billet heater, log shear or saw, quench system, pullers, fixed and mobile saws, and other related sections.
- Take charge of guiding and empowering the team to successfully achieve production support goals that are in line with the overall objectives of the company.
- Facilitate effective communication and ensure that the incoming team has the necessary tools ready in sequence to complete the task list smoothly, enabling a seamless transition during shift change.
- Thorough grasp of the significance of maintaining cast numbers and log traceability, supports in quench maintenance as required, and aids in operating skimmer or cleanout blocks as necessary.
- Provide proper training, mentor, and educate press personnel, enforce procedures effectively, and offer guidance and counseling when needed.
- Promptly draws focus and attention to discrepancies, deviations, and/or variations in material to the corresponding personnel.
- Adhere to all safety and quality guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment including but not limited to adhering to all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements, immediate incident reporting, and adherence to both Safety Cardinal Rules and Quality Cardinal Rules, among others.
Qualifications
- High School education or equivalent desired.
- Previous extrusions and/or experience in a manufacturing and/or heavy-industrial environment preferred.
- Strong problem solving, delegation, conflict resolution, motivational and team building skills required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work safely and effectively required.
- Ability leading/supervising small team in a complex fast-paced manufacturing environment while managing multiple priorities required.
- Proficiency in reading a tape measure, comprehending and interpreting blueprints accurately, and identifying variations effectively.
- Ability to work weekends and overtime as needed required.
- Ability to perform Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed above.
- Promote, support, and enforce ISO 9001 standards as they apply to the facility.
Physical Demands
The employee in this role will primarily be standing while performing assigned duties. There will also be frequent walking involved, as well as the use of hands to handle and feel. The employee will be required to have coordination and manual dexterity to safely operate forklift controls. The employee will be required to reach with their hands and arms, occasionally balance or climb, stoop, kneel, and crouch as necessary. Additionally, the employee will need to have the ability to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. This job requires specific vision abilities, including close vision for performing detailed tasks, distance vision to see objects clearly at a further distance, and peripheral vision to be aware of surroundings. These vision abilities, among others, are essential to successfully carry out the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
Work Environment
Responsibilities are carried out in both indoor settings and in the plant, an unregulated environment that experiences extreme temperatures and high levels of noise, including but not limited to other uncontrollable factors.

Pay: $26.00 - $31.05 per hour
