Job Summary: The Yard Laborer is responsible for operating equipment, and facilities maintenance including grounds keeping and janitorial duties.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for the safe operation of heavy and light equipment for terminal yard maintenance Responsible for cleanliness of exterior and interior areas of company property Perform safety spot checks on commercial motor vehicle (CMV) trucks and trailers Periodically conduct trailer inventory counts Clean and sanitize CMV trucks daily Conduct operator level preventative maintenance on trailers and document work performed Safely operate machinery and equipment such as a forklift and terminal tractor Assists maintenance shop in cleaning and organizing inventory Pressure washes hard surfaces and buildings Assists in all self help projects, painting, light bulb and ceiling tile replacement, etc. Maintain and operate grounds keeping equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, and small hand tools, ensuring they are in good working condition Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal, applying ice melt, or leaf removal to prepare and maintain grounds year-round Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while performing duties, including the use of protective equipment and the safe handling of chemicals to ensure a safe working environment Other duties as assigned by operations or maintenance management
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent Must be able to pass Department of Transportation alcohol and drug screen Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines Ability to operate and maintain various vehicles and equipment Ability to work outside in inclement weather and in varying environmental conditions Basic understanding of safety protocols and practices Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred
Experience in construction, mechanical, or transportation industry

Physical Demands: Must possess mobility to work in a outdoors setting and use standard office equipment including a computer; operate a motor vehicle and to visit various locations; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is mostly a general laborer classification, standing in outdoor work areas and walking between terminals, maintenance shops and Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) operating areas for long periods must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include clear and accurate vision, with or without corrective lenses, for tasks such as reading gauges, inspecting equipment, and identifying potential contaminants. Hearing abilities adequate to respond to auditory signals, alarms, and communicate with team members.
Communication: Ability to speak with internal customers to determine the nature of the problem or to explain the work performed. Ability to discuss work with other technicians or supervisors. Ability to make self understood as well as be able to understand what others are saying.
Driving Skills: Proficient driving skills, including the ability to maneuver and operate the terminal tractor safely in tight spaces and have the ability to lift and carry materials, tools, or equipment associated with coupling and decoupling trailers.
Work Environment: The duties of this job are performed in both an office environment, a CMV Terminal environment, and outdoors, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to office/CMV equipment. Must have a working knowledge of and physically utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) to limit or prevent occasional exposure to various severe climate conditions, lighting conditions, fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, and gasses.
