General Statement: This position will provide direct service to the needs of special education students; evaluate students for special education eligibility; provide a summary of formal and informal assessments; attend evaluation team meetings; administer a variety of standardized tests as well as observe student(s) to determine current levels of performance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement research-based specially designed instruction (SDI) tailored to meet the unique needs of students with mild and moderate disabilities.
- Adapt general education secondary curricula to ensure students can access the grade-level content while meeting their specific IEP goals.
- Evaluates students for special education eligibility.
- Partner with general education teachers in an inclusion setting to provide push-in SDI and ensure the implementation of accommodations in the general classroom.
- Provides direct service to the needs of special education students.
- Oversee and provide case management of secondary students, ensuring all legal timelines for annual reviews and three-year re-evaluations are met.
- Prepares reports of formal and informal assessments.
- Attends and participates in evaluation team meetings.
- Develop comprehensive IEPs, including Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) and measurable annual goals.
- Facilitate IEP meetings with parents, administrators, and related service providers (SLPs, OTs, etc.).
- Coordinate with students and families to develop transition plans that focus on post-secondary education, vocational training, and independent living.
- Implement and monitor BIPs for students, utilizing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to maintain a productive learning environment.
- Manage escalated classroom situations with approved de-escalation techniques, prioritizing student safety and dignity.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Knowledge of secondary school education.
- Case Management; ability to write IEPs and conduct evaluations
- Must be able to provide direct service to students both in and out of the classroom.
- Must be able to physically provide classroom control.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Certification & Licensing:
- Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements for certification in Special Education grades 7-12.
- Authorized to work in the USA
- Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
