Job Summary: This position provides instruction in a Criminal Justice Career and Technical Education pathway. The role emphasizes applied, real-world learning aligned with RIDE CTE standards and includes mentoring students to support their academic, personal, and career development. The teacher delivers engaging instruction, assesses student progress, maintains a safe and supportive classroom environment, and promotes student growth and career readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and deliver curriculum aligned with Rhode Island CTE standards, RIDE requirements, and current industry practices.
- Instruct students in foundational and advanced criminal justice topics, including law enforcement, public safety, and legal systems.
- Apply real-world criminal justice practices in instructional settings to prepare students with both academic knowledge and experiential, workforce-ready skills.
- Contribute to program development, including curriculum planning, equipment selection, and industry partnerships.
- Supervise and support students in a laboratory-based instructional setting.
- Participate in required professional development, training, and certification activities.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for high school students.
- Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and community and industry partners to support student success.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Current or retired law enforcement professional with documented field experience in policing, corrections, public safety, or a related criminal justice role.
- Familiarity with safety protocols, risk management, and supervision in classroom or laboratory-based environments.
- Experience working with students in educational, training, mentoring, or supervisory capacities preferred, supporting CTE’s focus on engaging, relevant, hands-on learning.
- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field required.
- Master's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
- Certification:
- Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.
- Must be eligible for Rhode Island Department of Education Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification in the Criminal Justice program area.
Salary : $51,182 - $95,727
