Student Engineer - Process /Drafter

Summary:

The Student Engineer will work closely with Project Engineers and others while becoming familiar with WesTech's values, projects, equipment, and processes. They will assist with design/calculations of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) and associated system engineering analysis and design. The position offers opportunities to learn and contribute to the engineering, development, and construction of Water/Wastewater Treatment Plants through hands-on exposure, mentorship, and observation.

Candidates for this position may be required to pass pre-employment and periodic screenings, including background checks, drug and alcohol tests, or other necessary assessments.

Some of the work you will do: 

• Prepare engineering submittal documentation.
• Create and edit drawings in AutoCAD, primarily P&ID’s.
• Perform calculations such as Mass Balance, chemical and utility usage, and equipment sizing.
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with teams including other engineers, project managers, and vendors.
• Review technical specifications and industry standards.
• Aide senior engineers and designers in developing and maintaining standard templates for typical deliverables and internal reference documents.

• Actively pursuing bachelor’s degree at an accredited university, with continued enrollment throughout employment
• Data reduction and interpretation.
• Ability to work well with others and interact professionally.
• Ability to manage completing priorities in an effective and efficient manner.

Here are the skills and qualifications that will set you apart: 

• Sophomore or Junior-level student studying Chemical, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience using AutoCAD, Inventor, Plant 3D, or SolidWorks.
• Basic understanding of any of the following: water chemistry, system controls, instrumentation, piping systems, pumps, and fluid mechanics.
• Knowledge of industry codes and standards (ISA, PIP, ASME, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work at desk using a computer and phone system.
• Regularly required to move around the facility.
• Some lifting up to 50 lbs.
• May be required to climb ladders, access elevated walkways, or wear a safety harness.
• Exposure to elements at construction sites (cold, heat, wet, dark).
• Must comply with all safety regulations and may be required to be fit-tested and clean-shaven for proper respiratory equipment.
