Summary

The overarching goal of a Product Manager is to collaborate with and oversee cross-functional product teams to identify opportunities to develop and optimize products/services to improve financial and product performance. A Product Manager performs research and analysis on completed jobs, pilot projects, market feedback, competition review, and other sources to validate design direction and support a product-specific strategy.

In a highly collaborative environment, a successful Product Manager will foster development of well-designed product frameworks/standards/platforms, generate supporting resources and tools, strengthen subject matter expertise, share best practices, and identify opportunities to strategically position products through reduced costs, enhanced features, and/or successful product expansion into new markets and applications.

Some Of The Work That You Will Do

Product Managers work with many different stakeholders to perform essential job duties.

  • Internal Product Teams (AEs, PMs, RSMs, Design, etc.): Optimize and create product frameworks/standards/platforms to improve competitive position, simplify bidding processes, conduct corrective actions for product non-conformities, support project execution, and enhance product training.
  • External Customers: Identify and develop product and service features that meet the needs of target customers and anticipate market and product trends.
  • Internal Collaborators: Collaborate with Safety, Sustainability, Corporate Services, Solutions (Rentals, Systems), and other internal entities to identify product strategies that align with corporate and divisional priorities and generate value.
  • External Collaborators: Collaborate with sales representatives, vendors, fabrication shops, contractors, and others as applicable to identify product strategies.
  • Understand product resource needs / current state, and collaborate with functional leads to generate, update, and / or organize all supporting resources and tools for consistency and functionality.
  • Strengthen subject matter expertise and awareness of product line across multiple functional dimensions (Sales, Applications, Design, Project Management, Engineering, and Customer Support).
  • Create basic and advanced product training plans, as needed, to improve product understanding and any design updates.
  • Gather feedback, prioritize, and collaborate with others to execute on strategic product improvements.
  • Review periodic financial reports and activity (i.e., bid opportunities, project finances) to demonstrate success and strength of products, and compare results to set targets.
  • Understand current regulations and anticipate upcoming changes to better promote products and reduce risk.
  • Follow established guidelines to achieve consistency in tools and methodology. If a guideline does not exist, participate in creation of guidelines and principles to promote consistency.
  • Support RSMs, AEs, and Marketing through participation in technical conferences, trade shows, customer or representative trainings, and other product promotional efforts.
  • Understand competitive landscape and be able to apply frameworks (i.e., SWOT analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, and VRIO or other strategic analysis concepts) to better position products. This may also include review of patents to assess intellectual property protections of potential features.

Here Are The Skills That You Need

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or related field
  • Experience: 3 years of related experience with product line as Applications Engineer, Project Manager, Project Engineer, Designer, or Process Engineer. Must be able to speak proficiently as an expert on some element of product design, process, features, and/or operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with customers and conduct technical presentations.

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience: 10 years of related experience
  • Leadership Experience: Prior experience in personnel management

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work at desk using a computer and phone system
  • Regularly required to move around the facility
  • Some lifting may be involved, up to 50 lbs., specifically when in when in warehouse areas
  • Inspect equipment when at job and fabrication sites, which may involve:
    • Bending/stooping, climbing ladders, high/narrow walkways and catwalks, wearing a safety harness
    • Exposure to elements; cold, heat, wet, and/or dark
    • Utilizing hands in and around mechanical parts
    • May be required to be fit tested and clean-shaven for proper respiratory equipment
