Maintenance/Custodial Staff (Part-Time)

The Maintenance/Custodial staff member ensures that the facility remains clean, safe, and well-maintained. This position supports daily custodial tasks, light maintenance work, and general facility upkeep to create a welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and the community.

This is a part time role with variable hours as needed to support our full time maintenance staff. The hourly rate for this role is $17.00.

This position is expected to be available when deemed necessary by the Director of Facilities for snow days, weekend events, etc.

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform routine custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
• Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, minor repairs, and reporting issues that require additional attention.
• Set up and break down rooms for events, meetings, or activities as needed.
• Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor when restocking is needed.
• Ensure all equipment and tools are used safely and stored properly.
• Maintain outdoor areas as assigned (e.g., light snow removal, sweeping walkways, picking up debris).
• Follow all safety procedures and report hazards promptly.
• Provide general support to the facilities team as needed.

• Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working independently and managing time effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends if needed.

Work Environment:

• This role involves standing, walking, bending, and performing physical tasks for extended periods.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and occasional outdoor weather conditions.
