What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Nutritionist (WIC Program) position at Westchester County Government?
The Westchester County Department of Public Health has an immediate onsite opportunity for a Staff Nutritionist to plan and conduct WIC services at our Yonkers site.
Incumbents perform nutrition assessments to develop nutrition care plans, conduct educational programs and counseling services for nutritionally vulnerable target groups and high-risk individuals, and coordinate nutrition services with health and medical services. Responsibilities include making field visits, organizing and implementing local outreach activities for target groups with special nutritional needs, interpreting program requirements to physicians, health and social service agencies, community organizations and groups, and working to promote and advance program objectives. The Staff Nutritionist will supervise personnel and conduct in-service training programs for professional and paraprofessional staff.
REQUIREMENTS: Must have current registration as a Dietician by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and maintain same while in the title. A Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutrition Science, Foods and Nutrition or Institutional Food Management and two years of experience in the field of nutrition, which may include clinical nutrition, food service management, community nutrition, or related areas; or (b) a Didactic Program (DPD) in Dietetics and the experience as stated in (a).
Substitution: A Master’s Degree in Nutrition or Public Health Nutrition may be substituted for one year of the above stated experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid NY State Driver’s License.
This is a competitive class Civil Service title requiring examination.
