Brief Description

Position Summary

The Mobile Crisis Program Director provides shared leadership and operational oversight for Westbrook’s Mobile Crisis Response teams. Two Program Directors work in a dual-supervision model, jointly supervising staff and coordinating program operations to ensure 24/7 crisis response across all service areas. The directors ensure compliance with CCBHC and CARF standards, uphold safety protocols, and support high-quality, trauma-informed crisis intervention for individuals of all ages. Works autonomously to carry out program goals and provide programmatic and consultative support to other Westbrook programs as needed.

Essential Duties

Program Leadership & Operations

  • Co-manage daily operations of the Mobile Crisis program, maintaining safe, timely, and clinically appropriate crisis responses.
  • Ensure program compliance with CCBHC, CARF, state crisis guidelines, and WHS policies.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours leadership support.
  • Monitor documentation, data quality, response times, and safety protocols.
  • Plans and establishes services, workflows, and operating procedures for the Mobile Crisis program; evaluates service gaps and recommends improvements or expansions.

Dual Supervision & Staff Support

  • Jointly supervise all Mobile Crisis staff through coordinated coaching, evaluation, scheduling, and accountability.
  • Maintain consistent expectations and unified decision-making with the co-director.
  • Provide real-time guidance during crisis situations and complex client cases.
  • Ensure staff meet competency, training, and credentialing requirements.

Community & Interagency Collaboration

  • Build and maintain relationships with hospitals, law enforcement, EMS, schools, and community agencies.
  • Represent Mobile Crisis at meetings, workgroups, and community initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal programs (Living Room, ACT, Care Coordination, Outpatient, etc.) to ensure seamless transitions and follow-up.

Administrative & Quality Functions

  • Support budget oversight, staffing planning, and resource management.
  • Track program metrics, prepare reports, and contribute to quality improvement efforts.
  • Assist with grant reporting, sustainability planning, and program development.

Dual-Director Model Expectations

  • Shared and equal authority for supervision, staffing decisions, and program direction.
  • Coordinated schedules ensuring daily leadership availability.
  • Division of certain tasks (e.g., scheduling, QA, training) while maintaining full cross-coverage.
  • Unified communication and consistent supervisory messaging to staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Human Services discipline preferred (Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a discipline with health specialization, Recreational Therapy, Political Science, Nursing, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, Teacher Education, or Liberal Arts) or a Bachelor's degree in another discipline with a minimum of 12 credit hours in the human services disciplines listed above.
  • 2 years of behavioral health crisis experience; supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Strong crisis assessment, decision-making, and de-escalation skills.
  • Supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
  • Must pass Criminal Investigation Background and DHHR background checks as well as a post-offer drug screen

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to lead within a shared-supervision structure.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and team management skills. Must be able to communicate clearly, calmly, and accurately in crisis situations.
  • Familiarity with crisis best practices, trauma-informed care, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Proficiency in electronic documentation and data reporting.
  • Must work respectfully with staff, consumers, families, and community partners in a professional, ethical, and culturally responsive manner.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse population across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, adults, and families.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and move between office and community settings.
  • Ability to drive and travel throughout the service area, including during evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of materials and supplies up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to observe and respond quickly to client, staff, and environmental conditions in crisis situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and via electronic platforms.
  • May involve occasional exposure to agitated or distressed individuals; requires use of agency-approved de-escalation and safety practices.
