Job Summary

Westat has an immediate opening for a Principal Research Associate conducting healthcare analytics, statistical programming, reporting, and task management. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team on a variety of health services research projects focused on health care delivery, payment, and policy.

This is a full-time position to work onsite at our office in Bethesda, Maryland at least 3 days/week and from your home office 2 days/week.

Job Responsibilities

• Serve in various technical roles using data transformation, ETL, and quantitative research methods for a variety of large, complex projects for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other federal clients.
• Independently conduct programming and analysis activities using SQL, Python, R, Databricks or other statistical packages to ingest, link, clean, create, and manipulate complex datasets such as Medicare/Medicaid claims and administrative data.
• Conduct quantitative analysis, interpret results, and prepare internal and client reports.
• Provide project management support including preparing progress reports and managing timelines.
• Communicate quantitative results verbally and in writing for a variety of internal and external audiences. Participate in business development activities, as needed. Please include a cover letter when submitting your application.
  
  

Basic Qualifications

• A master's degree in a relevant discipline including, but not limited to economics, statistics, public health, or computer science, and 8 years of experience working in a healthcare-related field with progressively increasing responsibilities or a bachelor’s degree and 15 years of relevant experience.
• Experience conducting health services research independently and on multidisciplinary teams.
• Quantitative analytic expertise using SQL, Python, R, Databricks or other programming languages.
• Experience working with CMS data and large CMS databases (e.g., IDR and/or Model Space), including claims and other administrative data supporting CMS contracts.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on contracts to support the CMS Innovation Center’s implementation and monitoring of alternative payment models.
• Task leadership experience.
• Ability to summarize or synthesize information for different audiences and purposes.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to coordinate completion of projects and tasks.

The anticipated salary range for this role is $120,000 to $142,000 commensurate with experience.
