SPECIAL ASSISTANT
WV STATE TREASURER'S OFFICE-KANAWHA CO.

Salary: $35,000-$45,000; salary commensurate with training and experience. Full-time employees of the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office (WVSTO) are eligible for Public Employee Insurance Agency benefits and a number of other benefits available to state employees.


Location: Charleston, WV


Job Type: Full-Time Permanent; Not in the Classified Service; FLSA: Non-Exempt 


Division: WVSTO Executive


Reports To: State Treasurer 


Nature of Work:


Under general supervision, this position coordinates and carries out special projects as directed by the State Treasurer. The State Treasurer provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines and priorities. Additional, specific instructions are given for new, difficult, or unusual assignments. This position uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments. Single day and occasional overnight travel is required. 


Job Duties: 


Includes some or all of the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Performs various special assignments and projects as directed by the State Treasurer.

  • Provides and coordinates transportation logistics for the Executive staff to official meetings, press opportunities or events; single day and occasional overnight travel required.

  • Collaborates with Executive Assistant to provide a comprehensive range of support actions for the Executive division.

  • Performs messenger and delivery work; carries out official STO errands as directed by the State Treasurer.

  • Conducts special studies of a confidential nature.

  • Provides support on constituent services and other requests from local elected officials, business and nonprofit organizations.

  • Conducts research assigned by Executive staff for various topics and projects.

  • Provides support for projects assigned in conjunction to the legislative process.

  • Addresses miscellaneous needs and Executive staff requests as they arise.

Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and must maintain such for duration of employment. 


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state officials, program leaders, and the public.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential information.

  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; especially Word and Excel.

This position involves considerable physical activity. Must be able to physically move or carry a range of objects and materials.  Must be able to traverse office facilities to pick up mail. Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
