Oil and Gas Inspectors may be required to report to the Charleston headquarters or other locations on an occasional basis to attend required meetings or events.Special note: This job classification requires all interested applicants to take an online examination through the WV Division of Personnel which may be followed up with a mandatory oral examination conducted by the Office of Oil and Gas. Applicants who pass both examinations will be placed on the register for interview purposes.Employee will be assigned to the Office of Oil and Gas, Inspection and Enforcement, Abandoned Well Program. Primary Responsibilities: Conduct technical field inspections for the Inspection and Enforcement Program to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and permits.Investigate and follow up on violations, initiating civil, administrative, or criminal actions when necessary.Review field activities, including casing programs, plugging procedures, reclamation plans, and Underground Injection Control (UIC) wells and facilities.Respond to spills, complaints, and abandoned well site investigations, coordinating mitigation actions as needed.Review permit applications for oil and gas activities for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable rules and requirements.Review WR-35 and WR-38 forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable rules and requirements.Serve as a liaison between the Office of Oil and Gas and other state and federal agencies.Assist in training field staff and industry personnel on regulations, procedures, and best practices.Investigate public complaints related to environmental, health, and safety concerns in the oil and gas industry.Perform other related duties as assigned.Additional Expectations: Be available for emergency response duties, including state and federal emergencies and hazardous substance releases.Work in rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions, walking long distances when necessary.Maintain routine reporting and communication with supervisors and comply with section requirements.Stay updated with training certifications and regulatory knowledge.Utilize field meters, GPS, personal computers, GIS software, and statistical tools for data collection and site evaluations.Operate and maintain field laboratory equipment, mobile radios, and cameras for monitoring and inspections.Hold a valid driver's license and operate 4-wheel drive vehicles in hazardous conditions, ensuring proper vehicle maintenance.Notes: Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.Qualifying applicants will be required to complete an internet-based profile assessment to compare the applicant's thinking and reasoning skills, behavioral traits, and occupational interests against the traits determined to be important to the posted position.The recommended candidate will be subject to a search of his or her Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) prior to being hired and annually thereafter.Hiring Process: This job is a tested position and requires an online examination.
