Position Summary:
The Investigator plays a key role in enforcing state and federal civil rights laws by conducting thorough investigations into allegations of discrimination in employment and public accommodations throughout West Virginia. This position supports the Commission’s mission to promote equal treatment for all residents, regardless of their membership in a protected class.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Investigate complaints of discrimination by gathering and analyzing relevant evidence in accordance with state and federal laws.
• Maintain consistent and professional communication with complainants, respondents, and other involved parties to ensure timely and accurate case development.
• Draft formal complaints and legal documents as part of the investigative process.
• Conduct discovery, including the collection of documents and information necessary to support findings.
• Interview witnesses both in-person and virtually to gather testimony and factual evidence.
• Analyze facts, apply relevant laws and regulations, and prepare clear, concise investigative reports with recommended findings.
• Submit regular progress updates and comprehensive weekly reports to supervisors.
• Attend unit and Commission meetings to collaborate on case strategies and updates.
• Participate in ongoing professional development, including specialized training sessions related to civil rights investigations and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) procedures.
