What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Inspector position at West Virginia?
This position falls under the direction of the Chief of the Asbestos Compliance Program in the Radiation, Toxins and Indoor Air Division within the Office of Environmental Health Services (OEHS). Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Conduct a predetermined number of Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)/Worker Protection Inspections in public and private schools (K-12) in accordance with grant work plan; inspect asbestos abatement projects for compliance with state and federal requirements; conduct licensed inspections of contractors and/or individuals working at an asbestos abatement project; prioritize and conduct public education and outreach, as requested; conduct asbestos complaint investigations and provide enforcement actions; audit asbestos training providers; submit all administrative documents, including itineraries and monthly reports; attend training courses as required to perform job responsibilities; develop and prepare reports, correspondence and communicate with the public and other stakeholders; assist with Clandestine Laboratory Remediation Program, Lead Abatement Program and Beaver Valley Power Station (BVPS) exercises; and other duties as assigned.
Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid inspection, technical, or professional employment in one of the areas of assignment may substitute for the required training on a year-to-year-basis.
Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional employment in the field of environmental inspection or environmental compliance in one of the areas of assignment.
Special Requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license. For work in the areas of hazardous waste management and solid waste management, must take and pass physical examination within the first six months of employment and submit to annual follow-up examinations. Failure to pass the initial examination will result in termination of employment. Failure to pass a subsequent examination may result in reassignment.
