Function/Summary
This position provides technical support for the faculty, staff, and students on the WVU Parkersburg campus.
Education
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in computer science or related field
Bachelors degree in computer science or related field or equivalent education and/or experience. (preferred)
Experience
One year working with complex hardware and software setup and support.
Two years working with complex hardware and software setup and support (preferred)
Licensure
N/A
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Good communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
Great knowledge of computer hardware and software applications
Ability to work individually or as a team member

Duties/Responsibilities
IT Functional Support 40%
Assist in the administration and support of the campus computer labs.
Maintain and support computer configurations within all labs on campus.
Ensue proper configuration of software utilized for credit-based courses by working with identified faculty members.
Provide application administration and support for applications in use at WVU facilities.
Ensure that established processes, standards, and policies are followed. Applications include eLearning applications, faculty, staff and student email systems, and others as identified.
Provide first and second tier and desk side support for the WVU Parkersburg Help Desk.
Resolves varied significantly complex technical problems relating to computer applications, data transfer, storage, retrieval, and similar areas of computer use.
Resolves technical problems that are escalated by users and other first level support technicians including computers, printers, and other peripheral devices.
Responsible for the IT onboarding and offboarding processes for employees, account setup, permissions to data stores and systems.
Presents or coordinates technical training for the WVU Parkersburg campus following WVU Parkersburg training standards and using standard training documentation.
Preventative Maintenance & Installation 30%
Perform preventative maintenance of computers within lab to prevent viruses, malware, or other issues. Ensure a secure and reliable learning environment.
Performs preventative maintenance and hardware setup and configuration for clients throughout the WVU Parkersburg campus.
Installs various computer components.
Set up and configuration of hardware and software ensuring that it is working properly and the user has an understanding on how to utilize the tool.
Install software and hardware for use in the labs.
Determines problems by using a variety of methods including diagnostic software, research and/or other testing and makes repairs using small hand tools and electronic devices, as appropriate.
Determines if vendor maintenance is required and follows proper procedures to repair hardware.
Carries device back to repair location, if necessary.
Inventory 10%
Manage WVU Parkersburg physical IT inventory, including computers, monitors, printers, and other technology peripherals.
Organize and supervise periodic inventory audits of equipment.
Supervision 10%
Supervise student worker IT help desk staff.
Create and modify work schedules as needed to ensure proper staffing of the IT help desk.
Assign tasks and projects to student workers as needed.
General 10%
Keep up to date with industrys best practices regarding application security.
Participates in IT related projects on the WVU Parkersburg campus as assigned.
Maintains currency and advancements in IT and enhances skills as required.
Other duties as assigned.
