Job Description Summary

The Community Engagement Coordinator position will involve building and mentoring partnerships; developing program infrastructures and managing implementation schedules; building capacity of local leaders; and facilitating data collection to support implementation research and scholarly activity with WVSOM students, faculty and community. This position will be responsible for coordinating all activity at the Clingman Center for Community Engagement. This grant-funded position will report to the CRCH Executive Director and the Greenbrier County Health Alliance Executive Director as relates to work with the Greenbrier County Health Alliance.

This position is a grant funded position and as such is subject to the ongoing funding of the position. This position is also a full-time, non-classified position and is exempt from FLSA provisions regarding overtime. Not all activities of this position occur within the confines of an 8:00-4:30 schedule and may require evening and weekend scheduling. Some travel including overnight travel may be required.

This position has been designated as Essential. This means that when WVSOM is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover and continue operations at WVSOM.

The position will close on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 and the review of applications will begin upon receipt.

Education and Experience Requirements

A master's degree is preferred; or bachelor's degree in social work, public health, business administration, education or related field with 5 - 7 years of project management experience.

  • Knowledge and skill in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and to coordinate participation of team members from various backgrounds.
  • Group facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Strong ability to multi-task multiple projects at the same time.
  • Excellent attention to detail, flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Ability to accurately interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables and negotiate positive solutions.
  • Ability to coordinate activities related to data collection and serve as primary administrative contact for internal research and scholarly activity to evaluate community health activities at the Clingman Center.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license (need to provide the reason).

General Duties and Responsibilities

The scope of the position is to:

1) Serve as the assistant director of the Greenbrier County Health Alliance (GCHA) and work with the director to implement and disseminate GCHA community engagement and research strategies;

2) Assist with program planning, grant writing, and implementation of a local food nutrition incentive program and research outcomes related to food as medicine.

3) Develop relationships with local and state food systems leaders to increase skills and knowledge, and inform Greenbrier County efforts to develop solutions to hunger issues.

4) Maintain and grow grassroots community relationships and organizational partnerships in order to address health disparities and the social determinants of health at the state and local level.

5) Develop evidence-based environments, systems and policies to improve community infrastructure for health, maximize community resources.

6) In conjunction with the WVSOM Marketing & Communications Office, collect local stories, conduct communication and media campaigns with organizational partners, farmers, markets, and local food program leaders to promote and motivate unity around a county-wide network and system for addressing food security.

7) In conjunction with the WVSOM Information Technology Office, CRCH and the GCHA, create and manage a public facing calendar of events for the Clingman Center for Community Engagement.

8) In conjunction with the WVSOM Information Technology Office, CRCH and the GCHA, create and manage a website specific to the Clingman Center for Community Engagement and Montwell Commons.

9) Coordinate the activities related to the Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) grant and the Greenbrier Insurance Assistance Program.

10) Participate in the Clinical Translational Science Center (CTSI) grant activities as requested.
