Job Description Summary

Work Study is a great opportunity to earn money while working a flexible schedule to help pay for educational expenses.
Students who demonstrate financial need and are in good academic standing may be eligible to participate in the federal work-study program.
Work Study students may work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week, based on the student's eligibility for Financial Aid, the student's ability to work scheduled hours, and the department's needs.
Working hours are scheduled around student's course schedule. Most working hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Open opportunities vary with our current funding and number of students selected for position. Placement within a particular department is not guaranteed. Not all opportunities are available on all three campuses.

Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to
Office and Administrative (throughout college departments) work-study positions handle day-to-day general office duties and require the ability to handle filing, answering phones/making calls, making photocopies, using fax machines and copiers, imaging/document scanning, processing mail, stuffing envelopes, using computer, interact and providing customer service to employees, faculty, other students, and the public. Other similar duties may be assigned.
Information Technology (IT Department only) work-study positions monitor labs, start BBB and IP Video Classes, update PCs, Answer phones and make calls, perform Tier 1 troubleshooting and escalation of OZ tickets, basic network wiring tasks, and, depending on the student's skill set, some web development, programming, and Server/PC repair.
Facilities work-study positions require the ability to cut grass, pull weeds, use weed-eater, empty garbage cans, sweep and mop floors, clean windows, shovel snow, move office and classroom furniture, set up tables, clean classrooms and offices, deliver requested materials and supplies to various departments around the college, etc.
Applied Manufacturing Laboratory work-study positions require moving equipment, cleaning work areas and equipment, inventory of equipment and tools, etc.
Library work-study positions require assisting library staff with basic library functions including the checking out of materials using the library automated systems, shelving and organizing of books, newspapers and magazines; assisting students with the copier and using the computers including the student portal, email, and Blackboard; etc.
Academic Laboratory (Academic Divisions) work-study positions require: ability to handle general office duties including filing, answering phones/making calls, making photocopies, using fax machines and copiers, processing mail, stuffing envelopes, using computer, interacting with employees, other students, and the public, etc. Includes cleaning work areas and cataloging or organizing equipment or supplies.
Student Ambassador: work study positions serve as an excellent representatives for WVNCC, conduct campus tours, assist with New Student Welcome events, speak to groups of prospective and new students, attend required trainings and meetings. Requires a friendly, outgoing personality, the desire to educate and share WVNCC experience with new and prospective students; good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at WVNCC
Community Service ($12.50 per hour)

Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center
- The Neighborhood Center serves individuals and families in Ohio, Marshall, and Belmont counties. The Center runs anti-hunger programs, including a food pantry, on-site meals, and in-home meal delivery. The Center also provides case management, assistance with utility shut-offs, and help obtaining official documents like birth certificates and state IDs. Community service work-study students assist Center staff and other volunteers by sorting and documenting donations, assisting in the food pantry, helping with meal clean-up when needed, and other tasks relevant to the Center's mission

Laughlin Chapel After-school Tutoring Program
- The Chapel offers a free after-school program to Ohio county children ages Kindergarten through 8th grade. Attendee's of the program receive homework support, tutoring, and academic instruction. They also participate in extracurricular activities such as art, exercise, and other enrichment programs. Community service work-study students assist in the classroom through tutoring and aiding the classroom instructor in academic instruction.

Qualifications and Requirements
- A current WVNCC Student and have completed the registration process
- Enrolled for 6 or more credit hours per semester
- Eligible for Financial Aid (as determined by the WVNCC Financial Aid Department)
- Able to provide verification of authorization to work in the United States
- Able to complete the duties and requirements of the position
