Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Incumbents may be required to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs mechanical repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, both gasoline and diesel powered, utilized by the airport including all heavy-duty and snow removal equipment and does related work as required. The work of this class requires the ability to plan, lay-out, and direct semi-skilled maintenance workers in mechanical operations and entails responsibility for the quality of workmanship. This position must check the work carefully both in process and upon completion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Performs maintenance, service, lubrication and repair of automotive equipment and other gasoline operated equipment to ensure repairs and replacements meet manufacturer’s specifications.

· Inspects, adjusts and repairs gasoline and diesel equipment, including engines, diesel systems and hydraulic attachments. Performs as needed, engine, transmission and body-work repairs and replacements.

· Diagnoses the trouble in vehicles, trucks and other equipment according to defined procedures, checklists, and manufacturer’s specifications.

· Keeps management aware of parts and supplies used to ensure that inventory is accurately maintained.

· Takes periodic inventory check to ensure that inventory is accurately maintained.

· Periodically checks equipment for proper working operation, plus any possible damage incurred during use of this equipment.

· Cleans, polishes, services and fuels vehicular equipment, interior, exterior, accessories, and components using appropriate cleaning methods and equipment.

· Painting duties require such functions as preparing vehicles; determining amounts of paint or other materials required to complete assigned jobs; masking area not to be painted and applying paint with spray gun.

· Serves as member of snow removal team ensuring that the runway remains open.

· Must follow Rules and Regulations of CRW Airport and all applicable Operating Instructions.

· May be asked to assist in ground handling operations at any time if needed in a situation of limited employee availability.

· Needs to utilize assisting Maintenance Workers in a safe effective manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to do routine mechanical or electrical maintenance and care for facility tools and equipment. Ability to maintain records regarding material, equipment, and repairs. Ability to work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints. Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Educational Requirements:

High school graduation or equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

At least three years’ experience required in equipment maintenance with good knowledge of diesel and gasoline powered engines are recommended. Considerable experience and knowledge in the operation of equipment.

Considerable experience in safety procedures and practices related to work.

Certifications, Licenses Required:

Upon Hire- West Virginia State Driver’s License.

Must Acquire- Diesel Engine Certification; NIMS level700; UST Class C Certification.

Working Conditions:

Subject to a variety of extreme weather conditions; susceptible to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards associated with equipment and maintenance duties; subject to constant and extreme noise, poor lighting and fumes.

Other Requirements:

Must pass pre-employment drug testing and submit to periodic testing required by applicable laws. Must pass ten-year criminal history background check as required by the Transportation Security Administration. Must pass recurring SIDA with Escort; AFDQ; Fire Warden; Fire Safety; Active Shooter; Stormwater Training; Vehicle Search and ID Verification Training. Subject to work schedule with varying days off. Available for recall during non-duty hours for emergencies, snow removal or other related duties.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
