What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Engineering Analyst Senior - Kanawha County position at West Virginia Department of Transportation (WV)?

The Transportation Engineering Analyst Senior works under limited supervision as a lead worker and uses established guidelines to exercise independent judgment to apply them in specific situations. The employee is often regarded as a technical authority in the creation and implementation of policy and guidelines. Adequate performance of duties requires engineering education, training, and experience in the application of special knowledge of the mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences. This level is specific to the administrative and professional field. Broad functions and processes are the main components characterizing this level of complexity. Performs other duties as required.
Pay Grade: 20• Supports the work of engineering designs, plans, calculation, inspections, and reports for specific projects.
• Assists with the assignment, work, and performance of support and technicians assigned to specific projects.
• Assists with interim and final inspections of construction projects to determine compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and specifications.
• Assists with the preparation and reviews of complex plans and/or contracts for projects.
• Assists in the writing of reports detailing recommendations, conclusions, and findings from inspections and reviews.
• Reads professional journals and trade publications to gain knowledge of new technologies; assigns reading materials to subordinates.
• Attends state and national meetings and seminars to improve and/or share engineering knowledge.
• The work involves planning, developing, and carrying out vital administrative or scientific programs.
• The programs are essential to the missions of the agency or affect large numbers of people on a long-term or continuing basis
• The personal contacts are with individuals or groups from outside the employing agency in a moderately unstructured setting.
• Travel may be required of this classification, thus a valid driver’s license is required.

• Knowledge of a wide range of concepts or principles of an administrative position. This knowledge would be gained through extensive experience or continued education. Knowledge of the uses and potentials of modern data processing equipment and their respective advantages and limitations.
• Knowledge of laws, agency policies and practices pertaining to agency jurisdiction.
• Knowledge of equipment and instruments used in various types of engineering.
• Knowledge of fundamentals of various types of engineering.
• Ability to direct the work of technical staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major in engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college or university with a major in civil, electrical, electrical design, mechanical, or mining engineering technology.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in engineering.
- Substitution: Successful completion of graduate coursework in the field(s) noted on the posting may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience through an established formula.
