Job Title: Mail Carrier - Temporary

Division: Administrative Services - Building & Grounds

Headquarters: Guthrie Agricultural Center, Charleston, WV

Reports To: Building and Grounds Assistant Director

Supervisor

Responsibility: None

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

NOTE: Temporary Employees are not eligible for benefits and cannot exceed one thousand (1,000) hours worked in a calendar year.

Nature of Work: Serves as a Mail Carrier for the West Virginia Department of Agriculture through pick-up and delivery of US Postal Services and interdepartmental mail.

Examples Of Work

• Picks up and delivers mail from and to various locations including the Guthrie complex, State Capitol and US Post Office.
• Sorts incoming letters or packages and delivers throughout the Guthrie complex and other locations.
• Picks up mail throughout the Guthrie complex to be delivered to the Central Mail location at the State Capitol, the US Postal Service and other locations.
• Affixes postage to packages or letters by hand, or stamps with postage meter.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  
  

Working Conditions: Driving, standing, walking, talking, ascending and descending steps, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and using hands to sort mail.

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
• Ability to organize and carry out work assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
• Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
• Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
