The West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board, a State agency, is seeking to fill an Accounting Technician 3 position to perform full-performance accounting support duties. The incumbent is responsible for performing moderately complex, posting, and examining records to assure adherence to accounting laws and regulations as well as related work as required. Under general supervision, the Accounting Technician assists retirement plan members and employers in processing basic accounting entries.
The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with customers over the phone and in writing to coordinate and resolve routine transactional related matters. The Accounting Technician is required to examine accounting records to assure adherence to state laws and regulations, verifying calculations and ensuring accuracy and validity of transactions. Responsibilities also include navigation of web-based interface software.
Minimum Qualifications:
Training: Requires high school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Three (3) years of full time or equivalent part time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience.
Substitution: Successful completion of college-level accounting courses from a regionally accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of three semester hours equals six months experience.
Examples of Work:
- Triages refund applications.
- Reviews accounts, pay stubs, contributions, or similar materials for completeness and accuracy..
- Examines accounts and processes to ensure they adhere to WV Code and Federal tax law.
- Works with other departments and employers to solve or clarify discrepencies.
- Records their progress and any issues with accounts.
- May assist their supervisor with various processes and mailings.
- Answers and returns departmental calls from members and employers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic mathematical computations
- Knowledge of agency policies and WV Code pertaining to your area of assignment.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a copier, fax machine, and personal computer.
- Ability to detect and correct errors in employer submissions.
- Ability to clearly document work progress and ongoing issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to review the work of others
