What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse - RN @ West Valley Middle Level Campus position at West Valley School District?
RN Required
Provide school nurse services for students at West Valley Middle Level Campus ( housed at the Middle School ) and develop Emergency Care Plans for students at Ahtanum Valley Elementary. Assist other schools in the district as needed.
Schedule: 7 hours per day. (7:30 AM - 3:00 PM with 1/2 hour unpaid lunch)
- Work days follow the student school calendar with 32.5 additional hours prior to the start of school to facilitate Emergency Care Plans.
- Provide district health services for students (grade level based on student needs).
- Oversee health rooms at schools.
- Review medication schedule for students on a monthly basis.
- Develop Emergency Care Plans for students with life threatening conditions including students with diabetes, asthma, and other health conditions.
- Work with staff and families to develop Individual Education Plans and 504 Plans for students with disabilities.
- Educate staff (including Transportation and Child Nutrition staff) regarding student Emergency Care Plans.
- Review Emergency Care Plans annually. Coordinate transitions between buildings.
- Facilitate training for staff regarding student health concerns, including annual training for asthma symptoms, treatment and monitoring of students with asthma as per RCW 281.210.370
- Facilitate training for staff regarding Anaphylaxis Prevention as per District Policy 3420
- Facilitate staff training for gastro-tube feeding and other specific health procedures as needed.
- Facilitate annual HIV/AIDS education for students (5-12) as per RCW 28A.230.070 (1).
- Serve as classroom guest speaker for sexual health units as needed.
- Be available via cell phone during work hours for building emergencies.
- Train, supervise, and delegate authority to designated staff members who administer those medications specified under school district policy.
- Coordinate health screenings (vision and hearing) with school staff and when necessary, train volunteers on how to conduct the screenings.
- Consult as needed with the Educational Service District 105’s Nursing Corps Director and attend related meetings as approved by the Assistant Superintendent.
- Document activities completed in the above areas to meet state and district rules and regulations in health services.
- Document errors/omissions in medication and other health procedures in accordance with district policy.
- Assist staff to monitor student compliance with immunization requirements set forth in district policy and state law.
- Communicate regularly with District Lead Nurse and the Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Teaching.
- Communicate regularly with health professionals and families regarding student needs.
- Communicate regularly with staff regarding student needs and state/district requirements.
- Serve as a resource for information regarding communicable, infectious disease, immunizations and preventive medicine.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements : Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN), BSN preferred, be adaptable, enjoy working with people.
