What are the responsibilities and job description for the 3rd Grade Teacher @ Apple Valley Elementary position at West Valley School District?
Must meet the federal Highly Qualified Teaching requirements:
- Has earned at least a bachelor's degree
- Holds full state certification
- Has demonstrated subject matter knowledge and teaching skill in each core academic subject assigned to teach
Qualifications:
- Valid Washington state teaching certificate.
- Experience with HMH ELA curriculum and iready diagnostic.
- Knowledge of Washington State grade level expectations for reading, math, science, and writing.
- Experieince with Ready Math curriculum
- Experience using a standards-based report card model.
- Experience and knowledge with math stations, math groupings and assessment of students for best practices in differentiated instruction.
- Knowledge of the writing process- Dave Matteson writing strategies preferred
- Elementary teaching experience preferred.
- Experience and strategies in CIA Read Side by Side novel techniques
- Knowledge, experience and strategies in SBAC in reading, writing, and math as well as the common core requirements fot the preparation of the assessment standards.
- Proven ability to analyse data, reflect on curriculum adn standards, and strategiaclly plan for student success.
- Proven ability to partner with grade level team, instructional coach, and others for the benefit of students.
- Proven ability to handle student discipline issues and willingness to brainstrom solutions to discipline concerns with the building principal, counselor and parents.
- Proven ability to motivate and effectively instruct students of varying abilities.
- Proven ability to plan and implement dynamic, interactive, hands-on student activities that promote inquiry-based, constructivist learning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and experieince with Next Gen Science standards and science kits
- Knowledge of grade level expectations.
- Evidence of maintaining a positive and productive learning climate within the classroom. Experieince creating a PBIS focussed student centered classroom.
- Demonstrate commitment to success for all students and willing to extend learning time.
- Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive line of communication with parents/guardians regarding concerns and achievements.
- Be a contributing member of the staff, attending staff meetings, willing to take on extra assignments and to help brainstorm solutions to concerns.
- Bilingual preferred.
Working Relationships
Work in partnership with both large and small groups of teachers and other professional staff. Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff. Team up with grade-level colleagues to plan lessons, analyze student data, and maintain a focus on continuous improvement. Cooperate with the building administrator in the observation and evaluation process. When working with instructional paraprofessionals, provide appropriate lesson plans and activity supervision. May deal with a wide range of student abilities and behaviors; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.
Working Conditions
The daily work is performed in a classroom setting. The job incumbent is often required to stand or sit for prolonged periods, be exposed to a computer display terminal for prolonged periods, and meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines. May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather; lift, move, and position students and equipment; supervise students, bus loading/unloading; attend to students’ personal hygiene; may be required to deal with distraught, angry, or hostile individuals; may need to take precautions to avoid exposure to student bodily fluids and cleaning or disinfecting compounds; required to work in non-routine positions for extended periods.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job related is performed under a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere
