Compensation: $38.50 - $47.66

West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION

Maintain plant systems operations by performing a variety of operational responsibilities including non-routine, complex, or highly skilled technical assignments relating to the physical operation of the various systems of the facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • High School education with courses in algebra, chemistry, and/or physics. No prior experience required.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully complete the training requirements for Plant Systems Operations Specialist, Labor Grade 8.
  • Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all other qualifications deemed necessary.
  • Use of tools and equipment necessary to perform jobs.
  • Subject to shift work.
  • Obtain respirator qualification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of radiological controls or experience working in a radiological environment.
  • Knowledge of or experience in emergency management.
  • Knowledge of or experience operating process equipment (pumps, motors, compressors).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK

  • Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; maintaining a questioning attitude; reporting identified safety concerns or situations; maintaining work area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Adhere to the standards contained in the Company “Code of Ethics & Business Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.
  • Complete work requirements by following the direction of the supervisor; following policies and procedures; obeying all radiological, safety, and hygiene rules and regulations.
  • Operate various tools, equipment and systems to complete job requirements including, but not limited to, fork trucks, hoisting and rigging equipment, power tools, man lifts, and utilities by following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting; adhering to good operating practices; making adjustments; calling for repairs. Perform minor maintenance activities such as tightening packaging nuts on valves, trimming vegetation, changing light bulbs, etc.
  • Complete job requirements by performing a variety of decontamination/contamination control tasks including waste packaging, decontamination, and equipment removal.
  • Document actions by completing required records, data sheets, and reports.
  • Perform work in hazard-controlled work environment by donning and doffing required radiological personal protective equipment (PPE); following radiological, safety, and operations policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and operate site operations facility by following established approved procedures and run plans.
  • Perform PSO operator job requirements associated with the ventilation and electrical distribution systems and Utility Room by operating and maintaining various systems and equipment of the plant; mixing and transferring chemicals; performing and recording readings; performing a variety of decontamination/ contamination control tasks including but not limited to filter changing, pump flushing, and waste planning and packaging.
  • Secure information by collecting and analyzing samples.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by completing qualification programs; briefings; and training courses as required.
  • May provide guidance to other personnel.
  • Perform work within a crew environment which is controlled by supervision following established procedures and methods.
  • Perform other job related duties as directed by Supervisor.
  • Perform other work within the bargaining unit as assigned by Supervisor for which the employee is qualified to perform safely.
  • Regular onsite attendance is required.
