Line Maintenance Technician I – Join Our Team at West Travis County Public Utility Agency!

Are you a hands-on problem solver who enjoys working outdoors and making a difference in your community? The West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA) is looking for a motivated and dependable Line Maintenance Technician I to join our hardworking field team!

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Helping maintain and repair water distribution and wastewater collection systems
  • Operating heavy equipment like backhoes, boring machines, and jackhammers
  • Performing new service installs and repairing line breaks
  • Supporting the team with flushing hydrants, cleaning lines, and maintaining valves
  • Keeping equipment and vehicles organized, clean, and ready to go
  • Working closely with other team members, contractors, and the public

What We’re Looking For:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • A willingness to learn—no experience required!
  • A valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
  • A team player with a strong work ethic and a focus on safety
  • Someone comfortable working outdoors in all kinds of weather

Bonus points if you have experience with municipal water or wastewater systems—but it’s not required!

Training & Growth:

We invest in our people. You’ll receive job-related training and will be expected to earn:

  • TCEQ Wastewater Collection License within 1 year
  • TCEQ Water Distribution License within 1 year
  • Confined Space and Competent Person training

Physical & Environmental Expectations:

This is a physically demanding, safety-sensitive position that requires working outdoors in all weather conditions. Successful candidates should be prepared for strenuous manual labor throughout the workday.

This is a physically active role. You’ll need to:

  • Work in extreme Texas heat, cold, rain, humidity, and other changing weather conditions
  • Work around traffic, heavy equipment, loud machinery, dust, mud, and confined spaces
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, tools, and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more, with heavier team lifts as needed
  • Walking on uneven terrain and standing, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, climbing, and working in trenches for extended periods
  • Be prepared for loud environments, outdoor work, and on-call emergencies
