Volunteer Coordinator

Job Summary:  The Volunteer Coordinator plays an important role in recruiting, cultivating, coordinating, scheduling, and facilitating successful operations of the volunteer program.  This position ensures the effective utilization of current and potential volunteers to support and expand the work of West Texas Food.  The Volunteer Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Director of Community Involvement & Events while working collaboratively with the other departments within the food bank that require volunteers.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manages all aspects of our volunteer database.
• Ensures that volunteers have a positive experience.
• Recruits new volunteers and groups by visiting companies, organizations, and community groups.
• Work and communicate with Warehouse Managers, Development, and Programs to determine volunteers and project needs.
• Coordinates with Internal Programs Manager to provide adequate qualified volunteers for outreaches, pantries, and senior box distributions.
• Ensures that special events have adequate volunteers.
• Sends welcome letters and schedules orientation for new volunteer groups.
• Sends periodic thank you letters to recurring volunteer groups.
• Assist warehouse associates and volunteer groups as needed
• Assist in internal food distribution programs like Food 2 Kids and School Pantry Program
• Maintains communication with volunteers and organizations to inform them of West Texas Food Bank activities and encourage their active participation.
• Ensures the cleanliness and organization of the volunteer center.
• Provides support to the CEO, Director of Community Involvement
• Serves as backup receptionist for Midland and Odessa
• Ability to work in warehouse and office environment.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, over 50 pounds.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or Ged/Associate degree preferred
• 2 years of Customer Service
• 1 – 2 Years Sales and /or Outside Sales experience
• Highly proficient in computer programs such as Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Good organizational, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in all weather conditions including nights, weekends, and extended hours.
• Promote the food bank and its mission and accomplishments to the public.
• Professional telephone and email etiquette as well as experience in public speaking.
• Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with staff, volunteers, and the public.
• Main contact for facility tours
• High level of personal integrity and honesty
• Clerical test at interview
• Good verbal and written communication
• Must pass a background check.
• Valid Driver License
