Hearing Instrument Specialist-Apprentice Program
West Tennessee Hearing Aid Center is a provider in the field of assistive listening devices for the hearing impaired. We have offices in Jackson, Lexington, Union City and Dyersburg in which we test hearing and recommend hearing devices following Tennessee Board of Health guidelines and Tennessee State Laws.
We are looking for a candidate to join our company through our Hearing Instrument Specialist - Apprentice Program. Our program is designed to develop a well-rounded specialist with a comprehensive understanding of both the audiology and business sides of the profession. Through this program an individual with no current knowledge of the industry, product or procedures will receive on-the-job training and guidance in the studies needed to take and pass State Testing to become a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist. Our Apprentice Program is structured along with full time employment, so the candidate works and learns at the same time. The average length of time to finish the program is one year, but a go-as-you learn approach is used. Our program completion rate is 100%, every person that completed our program has become a Hearing Instrument Specialist.
Requirements to Apply:
- An Associate Degree or 60 college accredited hours
- Looking for a Long-Term CAREER and not just a job
- Possess a willingness to learn
- Possess good interpersonal skills
- Pass a state of Tennessee background check
Be willing to:
- Study-Take-Pass State of TN Practical Test
- Study-Take-Pass National HIS Test
Compensation:
- 40-hour weeks Monday - Friday ($36,000 - $17.50 an hour during program)
- All Licensing expenses paid by WTHAC (study materials and travel)
- First Licensed Year pay changes to $46,000
- No nights, weekends, holidays
- 1 week vacation after 1 year of employment
- 401K with company match
- Aflac polices with group rate after 6 months employment (We currently do not offer health insurance benefits)
What will a Licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist's Day look like?
- Conduct Hearing Tests (air and bone conduction audiometry), speech audiometry and Otoscopy
- Provide appropriate referral recommendations
- Conduct hearing assessments
- Provide counseling
- Recommend, select, fit and verify, modify and repair hearing devices
- Provide ear impressions
- Provide a high standard of patient care
- Remain current with hearing device technology
- Travel to different offices weekly in company vehicle
