Role Description This full-time, on-site Veterinary Technician or Assistant role is based at West Side Pet Hospital in Evansville, IN. The team member will assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, and procedures, including preparing exam rooms, handling animals safely, and documenting patient information. Daily responsibilities include monitoring patient comfort, administering medications as directed, assisting with diagnostic tests, and supporting anesthetic procedures and surgical preparation. The role also involves providing client education on pet care, preventive medicine, and discharge instructions, as well as maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked clinical environment. The Veterinary Technician or Assistant will collaborate closely with veterinarians and other staff to ensure efficient workflow and an excellent experience for clients and their pets. This position will also fill in as a receptionist and kennel assistant when needed.
Qualifications
- Strong Animal Care and Pet Care skills, with the ability to handle animals safely, compassionately, and confidently.
- Knowledge of Veterinary Technology, including basic clinical procedures, diagnostics support, and medical recordkeeping.
- Experience or training in Anesthesiology support, such as patient monitoring, pre- and post-anesthetic care, and surgical preparation under veterinary supervision.
- Ability to provide clear, empathetic Client Education on home care, preventive health, and treatment plans.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Veterinary Technician program, certification, or relevant on-the-job experience is also required.
- Effective communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Comfort with physical aspects of the job, including standing for extended periods, lifting and moving animals, and cleaning treatment areas.
- Willingness to learn new skills, follow hospital protocols, and uphold high standards of patient care and client service.
