West Side Montessori is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher Associate to support classroom instruction and contribute to creating a nurturing, engaging, and educational environment for our students. The Teacher Associate collaborates with elementary and/or middle school teachers to implement instruction, facilitate Montessori-inspired activities, manage classroom routines, and support student growth across social, emotional, and academic domains.
Areas:
- Lower Elementary (1st–3rd grade)
- Upper Elementary / Middle School (4th–8th grade)
Key Responsibilities:
- Support daily instructional delivery in collaboration with lead-teachers by assisting in planning and executing Montessori-aligned lessons and activities.
- Assist in preparing and organizing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Provide small-group and one-on-one academic support tailored to students’ needs.
- Help assess and monitor student progress using observational notes and formative assessments.
- Maintain a prepared, orderly learning environment that supports independence and responsibility.
- Observe and monitor student behavior, providing feedback and support to foster positive social interactions.
- Help supervise transitions, lunch, recess, and dismissal as assigned.
- Observe and report on student progress, skill development, and any concerns to the co-teachers.
- Support students in building independent work habits, responsibility, and autonomy.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Assist with progress updates as appropriate.
- Aid in maintaining Montessori materials and work cycles, ensuring materials are accessible, organized, and properly stored.
- Guide students in working with Montessori materials while respecting individual pacing, teacher assignments and choice.
- Substitute for a lead-teacher(s) as needed to maintain continuity of instruction and classroom management. Implement established lesson plans, routines, and behavior management strategies.
- Participate in team meetings, staff meetings, professional development and school events as required.
- Help with attendance, documentation, and basic classroom records as required.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, or a closely related field preferred.
- Coursework or certification in Montessori methods is a plus.
- Previous experience working with elementary or middle school-aged students is preferred.
- Experience in a Montessori or hands-on learning environment is desirable.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Patience, adaptability, and a positive, collaborative attitude.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow directions, be adaptable, and work collaboratively within a Montessori environment.
- Knowledge of early childhood to middle school developmental milestones is helpful.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and nurturing classroom.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to engage in physical activity typical of working with young children, including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfort with a hands-on, interactive classroom environment.
