Job requires the operation of various tractors and farm equipment to till soil; work ground; prepare and maintain land; and plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, harvest, and transport crops to elevator or storage area. Equipment that workers may be required to operate includes, but is not limited to, tractors with various implements, sprayers, combines, back-hoes, mowers, track-hoes, and ATVS/side by sides. Non CDL farm trucks will be loaded with agricultural products and driven on the farm and to storage facilities, applicants must have or be able to obtain a drivers license within 30 days of hire. Duties include participating in irrigation activities including laying pipe, walking length of irrigation pipe to puncture it at set intervals, setting up and operating irrigation equipment, clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches, operating well motors, operating, and maintaining pivots, draining excess water from fields, and monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops; building, and constructing and maintaining levees, installing and removing levy gates and putting in spillways. Manual duties include loading seed into planters; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; changing combine cutting heads; using hand tools in fields; light welding for equipment repair; performing general maintenance,repairs and/or clean-up of storage sheds, pivot points, buildings, gates, and all farm equipment; ensuring operational areas are organized and well maintained; using hand tools and equipment to repair, clean and maintain farm vehicles,machinery and specialized machinery and agricultural equipment; and regularly servicing equipment. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Basic English literacy and math skills are required. During peak planting and harvest, workers may work up to 80 hours in a week.
