What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Age Child Care Counselor position at WEST MORRIS AREA YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The School Age Child Care Counselor (SACC) - Before and After Care Program supports the mission of the West Morris Area YMCA by fostering a passion for the joy of learning and adventure in children. (Part-Time Hourly - 7-9 am and/or 2:30-6 pm)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains a culture of safety.
- Under the direction of the Site Director, support assigned activities which may include homework assistance, sports, games, crafts, clean-up, fire drills and other procedures required.
- Administer EMERGENCY First Aid and/or CPR to any injured person as needed.
- Maintain records and forms required by the NJ Office of Licensing.
- Supervise and discipline children based on written policies.
- Counselors consult with the Site Director on any questions of policy or procedure, disciplinary action, or safety.
- Ensure that areas, equipment, and facilities used by the students are maintained in a clean, serviceable, safe, and orderly manner.
- Share skills and talents for the improvement of the program.
- Prepare and distribute snacks.
- Additional tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR/First aid certification.
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA.
- Experience working with children in a learning or camp environment.
- Ability to effectively relate to diverse groups of people from all socio-economic backgrounds and communities.
- Bilingual a plus.
