QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (JQ)
- Such alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
SALARY:
Per Rochester Education Association Master Agreement
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To develop skills and knowledge of music and an appreciation of the art of music in each student.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaches skills in band to middle school students utilizing a course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
- Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
- Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performance.
- Evaluates each student’s musical growth and performance.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community.
- Maintains required inventory records of books, musical instruments, and instructional aids in the music classroom.
- Communicates with parents and school staff on student progress.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and solving health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervises student in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the District, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities as related to music.
