West Michigan Legal Group PLLC is seeking experienced attorneys who want the earning potential and independence of private practice without the expense and administrative burden of operating a solo firm.

We are building a modern, efficient law firm where attorneys receive substantial autonomy, professional support and a direct connection between their production and compensation.

Compensation

Standard compensation equals 55% of collected fees attributable to the attorney, structured as:

• 52.5% paid directly to the attorney
• 2.5% contributed to an immediately vested retirement account

Enhanced compensation may be available for exceptional production and other contributions to the firm.

For illustration:

• $210,000 in annual collections produces $110,250 in direct compensation plus $5,250 in retirement contributions.
• $250,000 in annual collections produces $131,250 in direct compensation plus $6,250 in retirement contributions.
• $300,000 in annual collections produces $157,500 in direct compensation plus $7,500 in retirement contributions.

These examples do not include the additional value of individual health-insurance coverage and the firm-provided benefits and infrastructure described below.

Transition assistance may be considered for established lateral attorneys based on experience, demonstrated production and portable business.

Practice Areas

We are particularly interested in attorneys practicing in one or more of the following areas:

• Family law
• Criminal defense

Attorneys with an existing client base or referral network are strongly encouraged to apply. We will also consider attorneys who have demonstrated the ability to independently manage cases, develop professional relationships and build a practice.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage an active caseload
• Provide responsive, high-quality legal representation
• Handle court appearances, negotiations, discovery, motion practice and case preparation
• Maintain accurate files, calendars, billing records and client communications
• Develop and maintain professional referral relationships
• Participate in the responsible growth of the firm
• Satisfy the firm’s production, client-service and professional standards

The position is designed for an attorney capable of developing annual collections of at least approximately $210,000 after an appropriate transition period.

Qualifications

• Active Michigan law license in good standing
• Relevant legal experience and ability to manage matters independently
• Strong writing, analysis, negotiation and advocacy skills
• Excellent judgment and client-service abilities
• Dependable case-management and communication practices
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with attorneys and staff
• Existing business, referral relationships or demonstrated business-development ability preferred

The Opportunity

This position is particularly well suited for an attorney who is productive but dissatisfied with traditional law-firm economics—or who has considered solo practice but does not want to assume the associated overhead, staffing demands and administrative responsibilities.
