School Psychologist Specialist – SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Possesses knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulation, and policies regarding children’s special education eligibility and programming.
- Manages, monitors, and facilitates the work responsibilities for departmental school psychologists.
- Selects and administers age appropriate assessment methods and materials in order to determine the needs of the student.
- Interprets assessment results and compiles comprehensive psychological assessment reports that address the reason for referral and include appropriate recommendations.
- Participates in eligibility committee meetings and contributes to the development of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Participates in other pertinent meetings at various schools assigned, as needed.
- Serve as a resource to teachers and staff regarding psychological services and the academic/psychological needs of students.
- Provides in-service training and workshops for teachers and staff regarding students with disabilities and proper procedures for the identification and referral of students.
- Ensure compliance of testing regulations that apply to school based psychological testing services.
- Consult with residential facility and private schools for SPED related testing services.
- Conduct behavioral classroom/school observations.
- Assist in designing a behavior management plan as an intervention.
- Work with parents, teachers and administrators to develop strategies to address learning and behavior difficulties.
- Prepare timely reports to maintain timelines for paperwork completion and conferences.
- Keeps abreast of developments and research in the field of school psychology and shares with colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a valid teaching certificate and necessary credentials for a State approved Psychological Examiner License or School Psychology Specialist, or Licensed Professional Examiner.
- Experience in conducting and interpreting evaluations and behavior modification development and producing written evaluation reports.
- Have knowledge of current research, changes, and trends to facilitate positive behavior support.
- Must display excellent people skills.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12 month contract
