What are the responsibilities and job description for the 9-12 Special Education, Level 1 position at West Lyon Community School District?
West Lyon Community School District is looking for a dedicated Level 1 Special Education teacher responsible for designing and implementing specialized instruction for high school students with mild-to-moderate disabilities. In this role, you will bridge the gap between general education curriculum and individual student needs, ensuring every learner is equipped for post-secondary success—whether that leads to college, trade school, or the workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs. You will facilitate IEP meetings, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure all legal compliance standards are met.
- Collaborate with General Education Teachers to adapt and modify 9–12 grade level curriculum in core subjects to meet student goals. You’ll use evidence-based strategies to improve literacy, numeracy, and executive functioning skills.
- You will focus heavily on transition goals, helping students develop self-advocacy skills and vocational readiness.
- Regularly collect and analyze student performance data to adjust instructional methods and report progress to parents and administration.
- Partner with general education teachers to support students in inclusive settings, providing "push-in" support or modified materials as needed.
