WKUD serves over 25,000 water and 20,000 wastewater customers in one of the fastest growing counties in Tennessee. The purpose of the District is to “acquire, construct, improve, extend, operate and maintain a water and wastewater system.” The District’s service area of seventy-two square miles is bordered on the east by the City of Knoxville, on the south by Interstate Highways 40 and 75, and on the north and west by Anderson and Loudon counties, respectively. The north and west boundaries are formed by Melton Hill Lake, created by the impoundment of the Clinch River by the Melton Hill Dam.

The West Knox Utility District is currently hiring for a Pump Station/ Wastewater Maintenance Tech II. Under general supervision the qualified applicant will perform such assignments and will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the District’s sewage pump stations. In addition, provides support and assistance to the water and wastewater treatment plants in the repair and maintenance of pumps, blowers, dewatering, equipment, tanks, and other pertinent equipment. The qualified applicant must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid TN CDL Driver’s License, and Tennessee Class II collection system license. West Knox Utility District will require the potential candidate to undergo a drug and alcohol screening prior to employment.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid TN CDL Driver’s License
  • Tennessee Class II collection system license
  • 3 years of operating/ maintaining sewage or water pump stations or the equivalent experience in the construction and/ or installation of the same.
  • Working knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operations of pump station facilities, water, and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Working knowledge of operating principles of valves, pumps, motors, mechanical equipment and hydraulics.

Job Description

  • Monitors pump stations for performance and security.
  • Inspects pump station sites for unauthorized entry, vandalism, overflows, and potential hazards.
  • Performs routine cleaning and grounds maintenance activities at pump stations.
  • Responds to calls from customers, field crews, and/or other internal departments regarding pump station issues or problems.
  • Responds to after hour and emergency situations in support of Call Duty personnel as necessary.
  • Process work orders for field crews ensuring proper entry of information for creating and closing out work orders.
  • Perform preventive maintenances on pumps, motors, blowers, dewatering equipment, drives, gear reducers, and other rotational equipment such as lubrication, cleaning, and painting.
  • Performs corrective maintenance on all mechanical (plant and pump stations) equipment as needed such as parts replacement and equipment changes.
  • Develop systematic repair plans from troubleshooting diagnosis.
  • Research repair parts and material requirements for preventative maintenance as well as repair and replacement.
  • Repair, overhaul, and/or replace a variety of mechanical equipment/systems and with assistance replace electrical equipment.
  • Utilize heavy equipment, such as, boom truck, backhoe, track hoe, cranes, dump truck, pump and vacuum trucks.
  • Operate pump stations in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Use SCADA and other pertinent data to optimize pump station performance.
  • Install, operate, maintain and repair pumps, motors, control valves and other pump station equipment.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work may be performed both inside and in the field environment which could vary in weather and outside conditions.
  • Regularly exposed to dirt, grease, oil, raw sewage, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, explosive and flammable gas, toxic chemicals, and related conditions.
  • Work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery and uneven surfaces and through rough terrain.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
