A day in the yard

Sun up over Pascagoula. You pick up the day’s drawings, chalk your lines, and begin transforming raw steel into the backbone of a combat-proven vessel. You torch, grind, and shape plate with precision, then team up to align and secure structural members so every bulkhead, deck, and frame lands true. The work is physical, the standards exacting, and the result is a ship ready for the toughest oceans.

What you’ll do

• Cut, bevel, grind, bend, and form steel components to exact dimensions and angles.
• Interpret complex blueprints (metric and imperial) and templates to fit, assemble, and install hull and structural sections.
• Use craft tools including grinders, hand torches, hydraulic and ratchet jacks, chain falls, come‑alongs, framing squares, levels, and plumb bobs.
• Align plates, beams, and modules; tack and secure components for accurate structural assembly.
• Work aloft, in confined spaces, and outdoors in changing weather; support multiple shifts to meet production milestones.
• Champion safe practices and contribute to a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.

What you bring

• 3–5 years of shipfitting or structural steel fabrication experience.
• Fluency in reading and applying blueprints in both metric and standard units.
• Strong grasp of structural layout, fit-up, and steel fabrication techniques.
• Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with fabrication tools.
• Solid math, reading, and comprehension skills.
• Track record of safe, high-quality workmanship.

Preferred

• Advanced know-how in shipboard installs and precision structural alignment.
• Background in high-volume programs or military ship construction.
• Leadership potential with interest in mentoring and advancement.
