West Hennepin Public Safety (WHPS) is currently accepting applications for lateral or entry level full-time police officer. WHPS provides police services through a joint powers agreement for the cities of Maple Plain and Independence, located approximately 21 miles west of Minneapolis. Our cities experience a far lower than average crime rate and we were recently ranked as the #2 safest area in Minnesota by Safewise. We are a small-town police department not affiliated with the sheriff’s office that receives strong support from our citizens and city leaders.

Applicants must be currently licensed in Minnesota or be eligible for licensing by November 1, 2025.
The 2025 salary range is $77,327-$101,992 and the 2026 salary range is $79,647.07-$105,052.76. Consideration for years of service credit and lateral pay will be considered based on years of service and agency comparison. Entry level officers are eligible for longevity incentives at 7 years of service while lateral entry may be eligible for longevity after 3 years of service with WHPS.
Our police officers receive an excellent benefits package including employer paid single or family health insurance premiums, a $3200 contribution to the employee’s Health Savings Account (HSA), on and off-duty access to an on-site workout facility, and access to dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. Our patrol officers work 12-hour shifts with a rotating 5 / 2 schedule, which provides two full weekends off per month.
