Summary:

West Hartford Housing Authority manages mixed-income, mixed-use highly diverse apartment communities, primarily located in West Hartford. We handle landscaping, snow removal, custodial , and full unit turns; in addition to responding to tenant work orders and performing preventative maintenance tasks.

We are currently looking for someone to join our facilities team. “Must-haves” include:

• Snow plowing experience in occupied parking lots with a pick-up and blade;
• Trailering experience, 16’-24’;
• Commercial lawnmowing, edging and landscaping skills;
• Willingness to perform all tasks as assigned;
• Maturity, self-awareness and emotional intelligence with an attitude of continuous improvement;

Job Requirements:

In addition to the qualifications listed above, you will need the following:

• Ability to pass multi-state background check, drug test and motor vehicles record check before hire
• Reliable transportation, valid drivers license, proof of registration and insurance
• Ability to work outdoors for extended period of time with exposure to pollens, heat and humidity, cold and rain
• Ability to work with chemicals, paints, drywall and insulation materials.
• Ability to see, talk and hear.
• Ability to work on roofs, operate heavy machinery, work in confined spaces and lift 50 lbs on a routine basis.
• Ability to work/inspect in wet, damp, hot, cold, or dusty places. Ability to bend, stoop and kneel and occasionally lift equipment or supplies.
• Ability to reach, feel, handle equipment.
• Ability to work while standing or walking for extended periods of time.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions using hands, wrists and feet.
• Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, and to work on ladders and scaffolding for extended periods of time.
• Ability to comply with complex safety and hazardous waste rules, storage, removal and record keeping.
• Must be comfortable using a computer and learning new software packages.
• Thorough knowledge, or the demonstrated ability to acquire thorough knowledge, of methods and procedures related to hazardous materials, utility allowances and energy consumption.
• Ability to communicate with residents, contractors, staff and management in a manner that is respectful and, constructive
• Ability to make and interpret oral and written reports on activities.
• Ability to utilize human relations skills in understanding and exercising sensitivity toward inconveniences and problems faced by residents as a result of the need for maintenance services.

Schedule:

• Our staff work fixed schedules daytimes Monday – Friday with rotating after hours on-call responsibilities.
