What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at West Hancock CSD?
The West Hancock Community School District is seeking qualified applicants for a special education position for the 2026-27 school year. Candidates need to hold a current valid Iowa teaching license with an endorsement permitting instruction of K - 8 special education. Candidates with additional endorsements in specialized areas such as reading, math, ELL or Strategist Level II will be given priority in our hiring pool. Athletic coaching and activity sponsorship opportunities are available in the district. The West Hancock Community School District includes the communities Britt and Kanawha in north central Iowa. The elementary (PK-4) and high school (9-12) are located in Britt and the middle school (5-8) is located in Kanawha. The city of Britt is located on HWY 18 about 20 minutes east of Algona, and about 25 minutes west of Clear Lake and Mason City. The city of Kanawha is 12 miles south of Britt.The school district serves approximately 630 students. The elementary school is a preschool through 4th grade building with approximately 295 students.

- Financially the communities have funded larger scale projects through donations that most recently include; a new greenhouse (summer of 2022), a new welding lab (fall of 2020), new video scoreboard (spring of 2020), and a track renovation (fall of 2023).
- High public attendance rates at concerts, games, and other student events.
