What are the responsibilities and job description for the Worship Pastor position at West Hall Baptist Church?
Worship Pastor Job Description
West Hall Baptist Church
Position: Worship Pastor
Reports To: Senior Pastor
Ministry Area: Worship & Music Ministry
Salary: $6,000 (Would need to have a secured job to support them)
Position Purpose
West Hall Baptist Church is a small, but growing congregation. We have on average 50 worshippers on Sunday Mornings. West Hall Baptist Church is seeking a Christ-centered, biblically grounded, spiritually mature Worship Pastor who understands that worship ministry is far more than music. We are looking for a pastor who will help lead our congregation to worship God in spirit and truth and who sees the platform as a place of ministry—not performance.
The Worship Pastor should embrace the vision of West Hall Baptist Church:
Worship God • Serve Others • Grow Together • Share the Gospel
We are looking for someone who can help lead a contemporary, multigenerational worship ministry while remaining firmly rooted in Scripture and centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking first for character, calling, and spiritual maturity. Musical ability matters, but a gifted musician without godly character is not the person we are seeking.
The ideal Worship Pastor will be:
- A born-again follower of Jesus Christ with a clear testimony of salvation and evidence of a growing relationship with Christ.
- Biblically conservative and doctrinally sound, able to serve faithfully within the beliefs and ministry of a conservative Southern Baptist church.
- Pastoral at heart. He should love people, pray for people, encourage people, and understand that his responsibility extends beyond Sunday morning music.
- A worshiper before he is a worship leader. His private walk with Christ should support what people see publicly.
- A capable musical leader who can lead vocally and preferably instrumentally, while developing musicians and vocalists around him.
- A team builder rather than a one-man show. We want someone who recruits, trains, disciples, encourages, and empowers volunteers.
- Humble and teachable, willing to work closely with the Senior Pastor and other church leadership.
- Dependable and prepared, recognizing that excellence honors God while perfectionism can hinder ministry.
- Relational and approachable, able to minister effectively to children, students, young adults, families, middle-aged adults, and senior adults.
- Mission-minded, understanding that worship should ultimately point people toward Christ and strengthen the church to live on mission.
Primary Responsibilities
The Worship Pastor will provide spiritual and organizational leadership for the worship ministry of West Hall Baptist Church. This includes planning and leading Sunday worship services in cooperation with the Senior Pastor; selecting biblically sound, Christ-centered music that supports the preaching and direction of the church; leading and developing the worship team; coordinating rehearsals; recruiting and training musicians and vocalists; and helping oversee the audio, visual, livestream, and other technical elements associated with worship.
He should intentionally develop new leaders and musicians, creating opportunities for others to use their gifts rather than building the ministry around himself.
The Worship Pastor should also participate in the broader life of West Hall Baptist Church. We are not simply looking for someone who arrives to sing on Sunday and leaves afterward. We are looking for someone who wants to belong to the church family, serve alongside the church family, and help shepherd the church family.
Our Philosophy of Worship
At West Hall Baptist Church, we believe worship is about God—not us.
Our goal is not to entertain a crowd, manufacture an emotional experience, or imitate a concert. At the same time, we believe worship should be passionate, joyful, prepared, engaging, and excellent.
We value both the great theological truths expressed in historic Christian worship and biblically faithful contemporary worship music. The question is not simply whether a song is old or new. The question is whether it is true, Christ-centered, singable, and helpful to the congregation in worshiping God.
The Worship Pastor should understand that the congregation is not an audience. The congregation is the worshiping body of Christ.
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” — John 4:24
What Success Looks Like
Success will not simply be measured by how polished the music sounds.
We want to see a congregation that sings, a worship team that serves rather than performs, volunteers who are growing spiritually, new people being developed into ministry, and worship services where Jesus Christ is exalted and Scripture shapes what we sing and why we sing it.
Above all, we are looking for a man who understands:
You are not being called merely to lead songs. You are being called to help shepherd people into the presence of God through biblically faithful worship.
If God has called you to worship ministry, you love the local church, you believe the Bible, you work well with others, and you have a passion to see people genuinely worship Jesus Christ, we would love to hear from you.
