What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian I position at West Geauga Local School District?
The Head Custodian coordinates the activities of other building custodians to ensure that buildings and grounds are clean.
The purpose of a custodian is: (i) to maintain an attractive, sanitary, safe facility for students, staff, and the public; (ii) to provide equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and (iii) to minimize property damage, loss, and liability exposure to the West Geauga Local School District.
Organizational Structure:
This position reports to the Operations Manager.
Essential Functions:
Facility – the Head Custodian will evaluate the needs of the physical facility, take needed action and make recommendations to the principal and the supervisor of buildings and grounds.
Direct the work of custodial employees as needed.
Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparation for meetings, classroom activities, and events.
Attends in-service training (e.g., instruction on blood-borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures.
Cleans assigned school district facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, gyms, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, attractive environment.
Exhibits good daily attendance and punctuality for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met.
Essential Physical Qualifications:
Regularly lift up to 50 pounds unassisted for the purpose of lifting equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks and for moving cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as salt and bulk furniture.
Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk/hear or otherwise communicate effectively.
Required to reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to work while sitting.
Frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach about the head and reach forward.
Continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders.

Pay: $22.92 - $26.52 per hour
