Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Gardener to maintain and enhance the beauty and health of outdoor landscapes, gardens, and green spaces. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, applying horticultural expertise to create vibrant, sustainable, and well-maintained outdoor areas. The ideal candidate will have a passion for gardening, landscaping, and agriculture, using various tools and techniques is essential for ensuring the aesthetic appeal of the gardens. Help support the West Foundation’s mission by practicing and modeling appropriate garden maintenance.

Note: This is a Seasonal Position that starts the end of April or beginning of May depending on the weather and finishes around the end of October.

Duties

• Planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning flowers and other plants to promote healthy growth.
• Operating hand tools for planting, trimming.
• Conducting landscape maintenance including mulching, weeding, and soil preparation.
• Monitoring plant health and identifying pests or diseases for appropriate treatment.
• Ensuring all work areas are clean, safe, and well-organized.
• Assist with cleaning the greenhouse, shop, restrooms, work and machinery area.
• Communicate regularly with the Assistant Horticulturist regarding any needs.
• Interact respectfully and courteously with coworkers and with Garden visitors. May include providing directions, answering plant questions, and more.

Experience

• Comfort with various horticultural tools and equipment.
• Able to follow verbal or written instructions.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Help to create and maintain a positive work culture, with a strong emphasis on professional behavior and treatment of all others with dignity and respect.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to use rakes, trowels, and other tools regularly used in Garden and plant maintenance.
• Ability to work in various outdoor conditions including wind, heat, rain, and cold.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to walk on uneven ground, go up and down stairs, crouch, kneel, reach, and bend.

Special Note

Employees under age 16 must obtain and provide a work permit prior to their first day and will not be allowed to operate machinery.
