THE OPPORTUNITY:

At West End House, we believe that physical wellness is a key component of holistic youth development. A healthy body supports a healthy mind—and through fitness, we help young people build confidence, discipline, and lifelong habits that empower them to thrive both inside and outside the Club.

Our fitness programs are designed to make movement accessible, fun, and community-driven. From open gym time to structured workouts, we encourage members to challenge themselves, set goals, and celebrate progress.

The Part-Time Fitness Specialist position oversees the day-to-day operations of the fitness center, ensuring a safe, engaging, and inclusive space for youth. Working closely with the Sports and Fitness Coordinator, the Fitness Specialist supports programs and initiatives that inspire healthy living and foster positive relationships with fitness and wellness. If you are a seasoned fitness professional passionate about advancing youth wellness, mentoring young people, and leading high-quality, inclusive fitness programming in a community-based setting, this role is perfect for you.

This is a part-time role (maximum 15 hours per week) reporting directly to the Sports and Fitness Coordinator.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the daily operation of the fitness center, ensuring a safe, well-maintained, and welcoming environment that reflects best practices in youth fitness and wellness.
  • Provide professional guidance and mentorship to youth and teens on proper equipment usage, exercise technique, and sustainable healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Design and lead high-quality fitness programming, including strength training, circuit training, conditioning, and group-based wellness activities tailored to varying skill and developmental levels.
  • Develop and implement engaging, youth-centered fitness initiatives that promote physical wellness, confidence, discipline, and long-term healthy behaviors.
  • Foster a motivating and inclusive environment that encourages consistent participation while supporting members in setting, monitoring, and achieving personal fitness goals.
  • Partner with program and leadership staff to advance organization-wide health and wellness initiatives and integrate fitness programming across departments.
  • Monitor fitness equipment, supplies, and facility needs, coordinating maintenance and recommending improvements to support a high-functioning fitness environment.

With this in consideration, we are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate the majority of the qualifications and experiences listed below:

  • 7 years of relevant experience in fitness, youth development, health and wellness programming, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education or a related field required.
  • Relevant fitness certification strongly preferred, such as personal training, group fitness, or youth fitness certification.
  • Knowledge of fitness equipment operation, safety procedures, and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to design and adapt workouts appropriate for different ages and fitness levels.
  • Experience leading or instructing group or individual fitness activities.
  • Strong understanding of health, nutrition, and physical wellness principles.
  • Experience working with youth in fitness, recreation, or wellness programs.
  • Knowledge of youth development and experience in multicultural environments.
  • Proficiency in a second language is a strong plus.

WHAT WE OFFER

The hourly range for this role is $35.00 - $45.00. Rates of pay within this range will be commensurate with experience and based on factors such as years of experience, educational qualifications, and proficiency in a second language.
