Position Overview
West End House Camp, a boys’ overnight camp located on beautiful Long Pond in Southern Maine, is seeking a Seasonal Head Chef to lead our food service program for Summer 2026. The Head Chef will oversee all kitchen operations, including menu planning, food preparation, ordering, inventory management, staff supervision, and ensuring a clean and safe kitchen and dining environment.
This role is ideal for a chef who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and enjoys making a positive impact on the camp community.
Key Responsibilities
Menu Planning & Meal Preparation
- Plan and prepare three meals and three snacks daily for approximately 150 campers and staff for 7 weeks, plus 5 additional weeks for smaller groups.
- Create menus that are nutritious, balanced, and appealing to a variety of tastes and dietary needs.
Team Leadership
- Supervise a team of 2 additional cooks and 4 kitchen support staff.
- Assist in hiring seasonal kitchen staff (if desired).
- Provide training, scheduling, and daily oversight to ensure smooth operations.
Kitchen & Dining Hall Management
- Maintain a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen and mess hall.
- Oversee setup, service, and cleanup for all meals.
Ordering & Budget Management
- Order and manage food inventory within an assigned budget.
- Build relationships with vendors and ensure timely deliveries.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Uphold all health codes, safety standards, and camp policies.
- Ensure food allergies and dietary restrictions are accommodated.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a head chef, sous chef, or kitchen manager (camp, school, or institutional setting preferred).
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage large-scale food production and staff scheduling.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- ServSafe Certification.
- Physical ability to: Lift 40 lbs. and Stand for extended periods.
- Work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
