Reports to:

Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent for HR & CAO, and Director of Technology and Special Projects

Supervises:

Students, High School Staff

Job Goal:

Administer the total high school program and insure that it conforms to the stated

goals and objectives of the Board of Education.  Insure compliance with pertinent

laws, rules, and regulations, and policies as formulated by the legislature,

Commissioner of Education, State Board of Education, local Board of Education.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

Overall responsibilities

 

  1. Reviews the curriculum and courses of study with the Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction and staff and makes certain that the prescribed program is being carried out.
  1. Co-plans and directs instructional improvement projects, with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the H.S. Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction.
  1. Initiates and directs such research as is necessary for the improvement of instruction and administration of the school.
  1. Directs the evaluation of pupil progress and the means employed for improving the quality of instruction.
  1. Devotes time to classroom visitation and supervision of instruction. 
  1. Assigns supervisory duties to staff members (teachers).
  1. Interviews and recommends for employment prospective faculty members.
  1. Organizes, plans, and conducts regular meetings of the high school faculty, or smaller faculty (SBM), with a definite planned program.
  1. Recommends the placement of staff members where they will be most efficient.
  1. Plans for student activities as needed in conjunction with the Assistant Principals.
  1. Requisitions materials needed for classroom work in the specified manner.
  1. Consults with parents concerning pupils.
  1. Stays abreast with the professional literature and attends professional meetings outside the school system.
  1. Supervises the handling of the High School Activities Accounts.
  1. Approves all school activities.
  1. Supervises the administration of the athletic programs. 
  1. Supervises the issuance of working papers.
  1. Supervises the preparation and distribution of a monthly activities calendar.
  1. Completes and submits all local, county and state forms as requested on time.
  1. Meets with the Superintendent and keeps him informed as to the progress of the school.
  1. Supervises the compiling and safe-keeping of all necessary student records.
  1. Maintains discipline among the students and professional staff.
  1. Recommends textbooks, major course supply and technology purchases through the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and the Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction.
  1. Recommends courses of study or changes in courses of study through the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction. 
  1. Supervises the custodian(s) assigned to service the High School during the school day in the performance of the custodial job description and makes emergency assignments as needed.
  1. Reports any problem of custodial personnel not meeting job performance standards to the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds when initial conferences with the custodian fail to produce the desired change.
  1. Makes use of custodial personnel after school hours (night crews, scrubbing crews, etc.) and during the summer months to meet emergency situations or short-term assignments which will not substantially deviate from their assignments under the direction of the Director of Facility Management 
  1. Reports any problems of cafeteria personnel to the Cafeteria Manager. Appropriate written communication should be forwarded directly to the Secretary of the Board.
  1. Provides proper safeguards for all school property and equipment, keeping an up-to-date inventory of the same. All losses or damages are to be reported promptly to the Superintendent.
  1. Assumes duties and responsibilities as listed in the West Deptford Technology Backup Plan.
  1. Carries out any and all other duties as prescribed by Title 18A, NJSA, or the Rules and Regulations of the State Board of Education and the West Deptford Board of Education.
  1. Assists in the management of the educational component of PowerSchool.
  1. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
  1. Be responsible to conduct safety and fire drills in accordance with state and local mandates.
  1. Prepare and submit an annual budget.

  5. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.

  1. Must be able to sit for long periods of time at an office desk.
  2. Speak and hear.

  4. Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers, and/or controls
  5. Use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception along with the ability to focus vision.
  6. Heavy computer utilization with ability to observe a computer monitor for hours of the day is required.
  7. Minor standing time for copier utilization from time to time.
  8. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. to move office boxes when necessary.
