What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Scheduler position at WEST-CONN TOOL AND DIE INC?
Company Overview: 42-year established and growing medical device manufacturer specializing in precision surgical instruments for spinal surgery and 3D printed titanium spinal implants. Decades of expertise serving orthopedic and spine surgery markets. Located in Shelton, CT.
The Challenge: We have strong sales, excellent quality systems, and loyal customers - but we want to get better at getting jobs out the door on time. Our production team is highly skilled and solid, our processes are tight, but our scheduling and prioritization need someone who lives and breathes this work every single day.
What You'll Do:
- Own the production schedule - every job, every day, no exceptions
- Master our ERP system and use it to drive daily priorities (not the other way around)
- Sequence work based on delivery commitments, capacity constraints, and material availability
- Chase suppliers and expedite materials before they become problems
- Run daily production meetings - 15 minutes, focused, action-oriented
- Say "no" when necessary and make it stick
- Track metrics: on-time delivery, schedule adherence, bottleneck identification
- Flag problems early so we can solve them, not apologize for them later
What We Need From You:
- Organizational obsession - you color-code your grocery list and it makes you happy
- Comfortable with conflict - you can tell people "that's not going next" and sleep fine
- Manufacturing background - you've been on a shop floor and understand how production actually works
- ERP/scheduling software experience - you don't fight the system, you make it work for you
- Urgency and follow-through - "I'll check on that" means you check on it, today
- Detail-oriented without losing the big picture - you see both the forest and every individual tree
Nice to Have (But Not Required):
- Medical device or regulated manufacturing experience
- CNC machining or additive manufacturing familiarity
- ISO 13485 or FDA quality system knowledge
What You DON'T Need:
- Engineering degree
- To be the nicest person in the room
- To make everyone happy
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 (based on experience)
- Full benefits package
- Stable, growing company with 42-year track record
- Small team where your impact is immediately visible
What Success Looks Like in 90 Days:
- You own the ERP scheduling module and everyone knows it
- On-time delivery is measurably improving
- The shop floor knows the daily priorities without asking
- Customer commitments are based on real capacity, not optimism
- You've identified our top 3 bottlenecks and we're addressing them
To Apply: Send resume and a brief note telling us about a time you had to prioritize competing demands with limited resources. We want to know how you think, not just what you've done.
