What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Fitness Instructor position at West Coast Strength Springfield?
The Role
We are looking for Group X instructors to lead group fitness classes at our Springfield location. You will run classes that are safe, well programmed, and genuinely fun to attend. This is a coaching role, not a performance role. Your job is to get a room full of people with different fitness levels through a great workout together.
The right person brings energy on a Monday at 5:30 a.m., can coach a first timer and a regular in the same class without losing either one, and treats the class roster as a community they are responsible for.
What You Will Do
- Lead assigned group fitness classes on time, every time, with a prepared plan
- Coach movement quality and offer scaling options so every participant gets an appropriate workout
- Greet members by name, learn their goals, and follow up when someone stops showing up
- Set up and reset equipment before and after each class, and keep the studio floor clean and safe
- Track attendance and class notes in our systems
- Communicate schedule changes and sub requests to the GM with as much notice as possible
- Support member retention by connecting participants to other services, including personal training and Day One consults
- Represent West Coast Strength at occasional community events and open houses
- Follow all WCS safety, emergency, and facility standards
What We Are Looking For
Required
- Ability to demonstrate and cue exercises safely, and to modify on the fly for injuries and ability levels
- Clear, confident communication with a room of 10 to 30 people
- Professional, dependable, and coachable. You show up, you are on time, and you follow through
Preferred
- One or more years teaching group fitness classes
- Experience in one or more formats: strength and conditioning, HIIT, bootcamp, kettlebell, indoor cycling, barre, yoga, or mobility
- Format-specific certifications
- Experience building and retaining a class following
- Comfort with music, mic use, and basic AV setup
Physical Requirements
This role requires standing, demonstrating exercises, and moving equipment for the duration of a class. You should be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds and be on your feet for extended periods.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
